the most simple way is to use motion curves.

To sync music to motion you may create a motion curve from a mp3 file.
Additionally, there is a whole module dedicated to sync of (multiple flames) to music: the Dancing Flames module. But, probably, it needs much more effort (to learn).

And, you may also sync fractal motion to the motion of your hands, by using a leap-motion controller (this may work well when you sync the motion of your hands to music)
