Hi,

I've read all the "Readmes" coming with the Linux download carefully (and I appreciate that you created them), but I still can't get the launcher to launch the actual program.

I've unpacked the download into its own folder in my home directory. (See below.)

The launcher starts and then disappears.
I've tried both Java openJDK 11 (first I had headless, then the "other" one, because some website said headless was the problem.
Then I saw that the JWildfire website mentions Java 8, so I installed that (download seemed to contain both, jdk and jdk-headless).
I've set $HOME_JAVA to Java 8, and I've tried the launcher (which showed a selection of Java 11) with selecting Java 8 manually.
I'm still experiencing the same problem.

This is the debugging output for Java 8:

Fehler: Hauptklasse org.jwildfire.swing.JWildfire konnte nicht gefunden oder geladen werden

Attempting to launch JWildfire using the command:
/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/jre/bin/java -Xms256m -Xmx1024m -Dsun.java2d.uiScale=1.0 -cp /home/db/lib/j-wildfire.jar org.jwildfire.swing.JWildfire
Translation: "Main class ... could not be found or loaded."

I don't know what this all means, but in case it is looking for a j-wildfire.jar in lib, there is none.
The j-wildfire.jar is in /home/db/JWildfire/lib (I unpacked the download into a new folder named JWildfire in home, was that wrong?).

I'm on Ubuntu 20.04.2

Can someone help please? Thanks!

(Sorry for the long post; please tell me how to make it scrollable or collapsible; backticks did not work)

you don't need the launcher, just execute (or put into a script) the command you posted:

/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/jre/bin/java -Xmx1024m -cp [PATH]/j-wildfire.jar org.jwildfire.swing.JWildfire

Usually, this is not enough memory, you can increase it by choosing a higher number in -Xmx[MEGABYTES]m

Thanks for the reply, but I had tried that and now tried again, and it does not work. (jwildfire cannot be found)

- sorry, forgot to enter correct PATH, now it works!!! Thanks a lot.

Could you please also help with putting it into a script? I tried to copy it into the start.linux_sh, but does not work (sorry, I know I have no clue!)

Strangely, I got the same error when I tried the without Java-Version on a Windows 10 VM yesterday.
I had a new Windows version (installed on virtualbox VM yesterday) and installed Oracle Java JDK 16.
Then I downloaded JWildfire (which comes as a .zip there) and started the launcher by clicking it in the un-zipped folder.
Like Linux, the launcher started, but then nothing happened (Open JDK 8 and 11).
In the debugging I got the same error message I got in my host system, org.jwildfire.swing.JWildfire cannot be found.

What would be the correct command to launch it on Windows 10?

a) you must grant execute permissions to the script: chmod +x start.linux.sh
b) script on Windows could look the same, but should not be necessary, there is a native launcher
c) I did not test with Java 16 yet, latest was Java 15. I recommend Java 11 or next lts version (=java 17, which will come later)
