Here is the flame in question but it is not the only one that did this last night. GPU render is just strange.

I have the same problem - gpu render and normal render do not match. I am NOT using wfield.

there are only subtle differences. when this is a problem for you, you have two options:
a) create the final design for GPU (i. e.adjust that it looks right on GPU, not CPU)
b) don't use GPU rendering
GPU rendering is not "a faster version of CPU rendering". It is a completely own rendering engine. So, you will unlikely get exactly the same results (comparing pixel by pixel).
For example, GPU rendering works with single precision floats, while CPU rendering works with double precision. Usually, the differences are only subtle, but, of course, they exist.

So, please do not expect exactly same results. I'm working hard to make them as similar as possible.

Thanks Andreas, I suspected that was the answer. It is not a problem, if I know what to expect, but the editor previews what the CPU renderer would look like, even when using GPU. In order to create the design for GPU rendering, is it feasible to show the GPU preview in the editor, when using GPU renderer?

Thanks for all the hard work on GPU rendering; it's an amazing feature and works very well!

there will be some GPU-preview soon, but never a realtime preview
